The cap gets popped off for one of the following reasons: 1) The cap wasn't installed all the way down, so that the spring fingers didn't catch under the lid of the breather. Solution: push it down until you feel the spring fingers catch. 2) The fingers can't catch because they have been bent inward so long that they will no longer spring outward.
