Re: [T3] exhaust smell

<x-flowed>I experienced something similar in my 64 Bug. What I'm telling here is general VW info so the fact that it's a Bug doesnt matter. Anyways, I had a leaking valve cover on right side. I didnt notice any smell until the vent pipe from the fan housing to the heater box fell off. This caused the soke from the oil on the hot heaterbox to get sucked into the cabin from the low pressure area in the engine compartment. I hooked up the pipe again and replaced the valve cover gasket and no more smell.

i have a fairly strong exhaust smell in the cabin of my fasty almost all the time. where is some places that it could be coming from? it just a coincidence that it is getting cold out and i am now asking this, i have my heater off all the time. and when i do open the heater ducts the smell actually decreases. i guess i could have a leak in my heat exchanger and it is seeping by a misadjusted flap into the interior, but could it be anything else? my fresh air pipes are capped and everything else is hooked up properly.
