First, thanks to all who offered solutions and cables if mine were broken, I appreciate it! Well, after an afternoon of working on the '66 I've got good news and bad news for me that is. Being a self professed pessimist at heart I'll have to lay the bad news out there first Bad: Pulled up the carpet this afternoon and was dismayed to see heavy amounts of rust simmering under the stock tar/foam board on both the driver and passenger side under seat areas. There was also an nice little ant nest tucked away in that humid mess. Looks like some DPO left a window open and water was on the floor for a L O N G time. Big bummer! What on first examination was a totally rust free car is saddly...not. Oh well at least its not the heater channels or rockers or anything hard. Good: After lots of wire wheeling and scraping I got lucky with only a small 1" X 2" spot near the passenger side heater outlet rusting through. Everything else was, while very heavy, only surface rust. A good coating of POR and all should be right with the world. Who was cutting up a square back? I could use a very small section of floor pan. Please e-mail me! Good: Also on the positive front, I examined the seat cables and discovered that they are in fact complete and unbroken. What I thought was broken unsheathed wire was another DPO kluge. The cables came loose from the actuators so they wrapped wire around the ends to have something to grab on to at the seat...pffft. I PB blasted (my favorite) the cable, springs and levers and attached them...they work great. While I was in that part of the woods I fixed both front heater flap/controls. They were just gummed up and corroded like everything else in the car. Its a shame the water sat in the car for so long! Bad: I still can not get the light switch (its the one to the right of the wiper...?) to pull out. I think it is corroded closed. Pulled the fuses box back and squirted some blaster in there in hopes of freeing it up. I still can not get any power to lights or accessories. I've got a new 6V battery and power is getting to the reg, up to the #3 (from the right) fuse, but I don't have the key for the ignition (next project)to turn it on. I've traced power to the ignition and it is there. All the wiring looks untouched, so I'll look at the diagram and see if anything jumps out at me. Question: What should I be able to turn on with out energizing the ignition?? Anything? Dome light? Trunk light? Horn? Headlights? These are the things that work on the '62 bus I have. That's it for now. Time for a carpet kit. Who makes the best one? I want one as close to original as possible. Thanks!
