<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hi all, Just had a really successful evening working on the car with a friend of mine. First of all, it seems the ATF leak is fixed. My friend poured some in from above and the tranny stayed bone dry. Next we removed the fuel tank, and not only did we find no rot underneath, but also the fuel tank itself seems to be in surprisingly good condition. We put some petrol in it, shook it around, and then poured out . . . clean petrol! I also blew thorough the floor pan fuel line with compressed air and it is not blocked. All the mechanical parts underneath the fuel tank seem to be dusty but otherwise look OK. I will give them a closer inspection later on. Finally I installed the new fuel hoses in the engine bay and the new fuel filter. One question. Are the little plastic caps for the top of the steering box available? I know you are supposed to fill it with grease through the two holes in the top (I have seen it done on a Beetle but never done it myself) but I don't want to do it before I am sure I can close it up again. Also, do you use the same grease the you put in the front axle, or something different?
