If you have the original cam gear from your engine and it's still usable, you might like it better for the fit. Cam gears were size-matched to cranks by VW. If you look at the old gear you may see a small number stamped on the side of it, from 5 to -5. These represent production variances to better fit the crank gears and the exact bearing positions, and make the gear train quieter. Aftermarket gears were only rarely sized in the old days, and never today. I admit that noise is a relatively small consideration given the hassle of cutting off the new gear and getting the old one on properly. But if you assemble with the new gear first and find that it's too tight (hard on bearings) or too loose (noisy), you'll have an idea why and an alternative.
