H4 is a dual filament bulb, H1 is a single filament bulb an is used for 
low or hig beam only (needs double headlights).H4 is the way for you to 
go, and a 7" round universal unit is commonly available.

Is it the lever tht click or the relay? I'm not sure if the 69 has the 
relay, but if so you should replace it. It's the same as in Bugs and 
should be available.
