Does anyone know the mechanism by which the shifter makes you lift the shift lever to put it into park? Mine doesn't do it, and I don't know whether I have put it together wrongly, or whether it's worn. In any case, the handle just goes freely into park without having to be lifted. Other than this the assembly works very well. I couldn't see any obvious evidence that if I put it together differently it would work properly. The shift lever has a little rod coming out of it at right-angles the bottom, which goes in a stepped slot. The "stepping", however, is only at the top. I would have expected the bottom of the slot to be stepped too, and thus you would have to lift the rod to go up the step into park.
