I usually use a .004/.006 go/nogo feeler gage, and set them so that the
.004 is loose, and the .006 part just goes in. .007 will not hurt the
engine.

The early engines had a different system of mounting the rocker arms to
the heads. Therefore, the valve adjustments were different.
