Success and progress! I was successful at removing and installing the Dist, whoohoo! You guys were right, very easy once you do it. Thanks a lot, I just needed the encouragement. I decided while it was out to install new FI trigger contacts. Mine were very very dirty. I know I could just clean them, but I had the new set, so I'll start my parts collection with the old ones. I put the dist back in then timed it. While I was timing I had the following problems. As I would line the 5BTDC with the case, it would stay their for about 30 seconds then advance an large amount and the engine would race, I would adjust it down again but then the timing would be at like 0BTDC. I would turn the Dist very very little to try and get it right on. It would stay at less advanced (0TDC) and more advanced (7.5 - 10 BTDC) but would not stay at 5BTDC. The only way I could get it to stay was to adjust the idle then time, idle time etc till I got it perfect and finally it did stay, but maybe because once I got it right on I shut off the engine and tightened the Dist. As Jim Adney suggested, after I had it tight I watched for the mechanical advance. I would increase rpm's and the advance was smooth but it would not return. I could only get it to retard if I lightly pressed on the Dist. Then it would return to the correct position. What does this mean? Also, after I reconnected all the hoses, I tried to adjust the idle and it would not change at all. It stayed at around 800rpm's. I did connect my fuel pressure gauge and the pressure was consistently at 30psi. I did not have a chance to get the long piece to check it under load. I did put the car in gear with the brake on and it still measured 30psi, but I don't know if that tells us anything. Once I put everything back together. I took it for a test drive and it ran very well. It idled smoothly, in gear even though the idle was low. Transition from when you press on the gas in 1st still took about 2-3 seconds to kick in, but I might still have the Throttle Valve Switch out of adjustment a little. I drove around for a while and it ran good through all ranges. However, I noticed that I still had the Air Temp Sensor unplugged. So I went back and did it all again with the temp sensor connected, it still seems to make a slight difference in performance when I disconnect it. Which I guess means I am still running lean. However, when I tested it cold, it only read about 100 ohms resistance rather than the 350. The engine did not have the heat build up as before. I also drove it this morning before work. Some of the old hesitation problems are still there, especially when cold. So I have more work to do, but there is progress. Thanks for all the help.
