[T3] gas tank foam seal

i just had my fuel tank cleaned out, and now i need to
replace the little filter screen inside and the foam
seal pad around the tank.  
where can i get the foam seal stuff?  would weather
stripping work instead? is it even necessary?
also, where can i get the fuel screen?  a friend of
mine has worked alot on spray coupes that use vw
engines and said that it isn't necessary.  is this
true?
