Oops, you've been caught up in the lack of a breather problem. Your 73 
engine has a different style breather box. To get it to run right with the 71, 
you should transfer over the 71 breather box.

Or you can use the 73 breather box with the 73 intake air distributor and 
make sure that you have the breather hoses connected up right for a 73.

In the end, you have to make sure that you have provided a way for gasses 
to exit the crankcase. Right now you have no outlet, so it is pushing out the 
rear of the case, around the crank. Your situation sounds quite extreme, so 
this engine must have a lot of blowby.
