RE: [T3 ] More FI questions

<x-flowed>

noticed, with the temp sensor connected, if I worked the throttle with my
hand I got the hesitation. The Throttle would move about 1/4" then the
RPM's would kick in, just as you discribed. And I can force this to happen

If I open the throttle with my hand on mine (slightly and in stages) I will get a momentary boost to RPM's then it will settle back down. Open it a crack more, and the same thing happens...etc etc until I get about 1/3 open or so, then the engine picks up. I know the TVS works and is adjusted correctly. The initial pickup of the RPM's is due to the extra squirt delivered due to the action of the TVS

I was under the impression that this was a noraml behavior, but I had the thought that perhaps the vacuum advance mechanisim is sticky, and there is no vacuum advance, and the engine does not pick up until the mechanical advance kicks in. Or perhaps the vacuum advance wont work until there is more vacuum.

As for the air temp sensor...I checked what mine did after you were talking about yours and the rpm's picking up when you unplugged it. Mine does the same thing. This confused me a little because things I have read concerning the FI state that this sensor really has very little effect on the operation of the FI. This sensor is supposed to fine tune the mixture adjustments across the entire range of operation. I did measure the resistance in mine but it was at operating temp. I checked the temp of the air distribution box with a K-type TC (engine off) and measured the resistance of the switch 100 ohms @ 48C

I think I have actually pinpointed the problems I was having with my engine. While I was doing a first run on my bug engine after re-assembly, I decided to go back to basics with the square.

Fired it up, and let it get to operating temp, then started pulling plug wires one at a time. There is no difference when I pull #1, same thing if I pull the injector connection. I then checked compression and spark in that cylinder (100 psi) Looks to me like I have a bad injector (or wiring going to that injector only)

My next course of action is going to be checking the wiring out for injector #1, and physically swapping #1 and #2 injectors to see if the problem follows the injector. Also #1 plug is black..not seriously..but compared to the other 3 which on previous inspections looked fine (tan)

Perhaps I have an injector that fires erratically?
