Modern radios are solid state and much more efficient than the radios that came in the earliest type 3s. OTOH, LOUD may be a problem. But if you can drive down the road with the radio on, with all the speakers inside the passenger compartment, and not feel the need for earplugs, then you really aren't using all that much average power. The stock generator will be fine. You'll get in trouble if you like to park and open the doors, get out, and entertain the neighborhood. With the engine at idle, the generator doesn't put out anything and you will just be running down your battery, so you're better off just shutting off the engine, as long as you have enough juice to restart when you want to. The big users are the headlights and wipers, and all the other little bulbs that all add up. The FI takes some, and ignition takes some. I suppose if you did a lot of loud afterdark driving in the rain, that could be a problem, but that's not likely to happen enough to affect most people. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
