When you sprayed it, was it still on the car? If so, I'm not sure how you
got any WD40 anywhere that would matter.
There is a page on my website that shows how the motor comes apart. To
dismantle the solenoid once removed from the starter motor you need a
powerful soldering iron to melt the main connections and re-solder them
after. If WD40 got inside and contaminated the contact inside, an
evaporating cleaning fluid might reverse the damage. Don't use anything too
vicious such as cellulose (lacquer) thinners or it may dissolve the winding
insulation. Meths might also not be very good if the insulation is
shellac - I don't know what insulation is used on the wires.
