Well remember that carbs dont atomize fuel like an FI system will, and liquid fuel does not burn. Thats one of the reasons you have chokes on a carb. Its to dump extra fuel in there to help it start in cold conditions. Also remember that cold fuel atomizies less, so with carbs, technically you can expect it to not run as well when its cold. >When it is at normal running >temperature it runs great. Do you mean a couple pumps on the gas pedal, or holding it wide open? If you have to hold the throttle down, that would suggest a flooding condition. If you have to pump it a couple of times, well I personall wouldnt think that was too out of the norm. >Are the carbs to big?
