[T3] they can run well, Right?

<x-flowed>

First off, is the whole hotmail users being unable to post thing fixed? If everyone is reading this than I assume so. :)

I have a '71 square FI AT that has always run rich, and always when it gets hot it cannot "go". By "go" I mean that I put the gas pedal down, the engine sounds decidedly more vehement, but does not increase in RPM. When it finally does start to increase, it seems to in a stepped incremental manner. ie, nothing, nothing, nothing...something, something...and finally more something. I'm starting to realize I have no idea whether it is the fuel injection, ignition, or transmission that could be causing this problem. I have always suspected the Automatic transmission. I rebuilt it 50K miles ago using the Bentley. As I recall, my dad and I were not exactly sure about the belt tensions in the tranny. The car has a very hard time going uphill in reverse, for example. I just checked all the temp sensors per Bentley, and they all seem fine. The throttle position sensor is worn, but seems intact when I cleaned and inspected it last week. I have gone through 4 or 5 vaccum senors, tested them, tried adjusting them, and finally just picked the one that seems to work best. The injectors seemed fine on a leak-down test. The engine in the car is at least the 3rd case, brand new about 50K ago. That means that the fuel injection components have either 250,000 or 350,000 miles or so on them. I've even tried a computer from a '69 in the car. Just this week my Squareback forced me to start driving my '76 westfalia because the flexplate rivets came loose causing the most awful rattling on sustained speeds and decelerations. Even if I was sure that the flex-plate wasn't going to fail catastrophically, I wouldn't drive the car now. Its far too embarassing. Sorry for the long post, but this car has been my daily driver since 1995, and I have yet to get it running right. I've been watching the list for a couple months now seeing if anyone elses problems were the same as mine, but it seems mine is either so obvious that noone else has to ask, or its unique.

Any direction would be appreciated. I plan on going down to Parma, but the whole flexplate thing certainly threw a wrench into the works.
