RE: [T3] Engine Temp

<x-charset iso-8859-1>>After a 4 mile journey today, I checked my idle mixture settings on my
carbs and was a bit worried about the heat in the engine compartment. The
air filter was very warm (40 odd deg C). I went and fetched my IR thermometer
and checked the crankcase temp below the air cleaner and it measured 74
degC- too hot to touch. Now the ambient temperature is about 26 deg, but
this seems too hot

74C (165F) is not hot at all. The normal oil temperature range is approx.
77C-99C (170F-210F, some people say 180-210F). "Too hot" is usually considered
to be 225F (107C).

Of course, crankcase temp. doesn't necessarily = oil temperature but the
last time I had a vehicle with an oil temperature gauge, I found it read
almost the same as a reading from a meat thermometer placed directly on
top of the engine.
