Set it statically 5 deg BTDC.

Yes, that's the spot. You have to remove the screw to allow the fuel to get to 
the gauge. I like to have a #6 nylon washer to reseal that screw when I'm 
done.

This is normal. The tips come just about flush with the plastic caps on the 
end of the injectors. If you pull those caps off you can see the projecting tips.
