Yeah, and the steel of the pads also kinda welded itself to the 
rotor.  There was never any noise, the wheel always spun freely .. kinda 
scary to think how long I'd been driving it like that!  Yikes!  The inner 
side of that "disc" is almost a knife-edge!

OTOH, I'm still rolling the car on 32yr-old wheelbearings.  They were 
perfect so I just cleaned, repacked and reused them. =)  I'm sure they're 
far better than the new ones I've been seeing that're made in Slovakia...
