Re: [T3] thermostat adventures

<x-flowed>>I find that it is tough, but easier in the long run, to just pull
that piece down a
little bit and insert the thermostat from the rear/below.

I tried, but I couldn't quite get enough clearance this way. Well, doesn't make so much difference to me this time, since I had more work to do up top. Tin had to come off.

I'm paranoid about this, so I always stuff a rag or paper towel in those holes
any time they get opened up. They're just too inviting.

Heh. I thought that I always did this, too. I was even thinking about doing it like 5 minutes before I dropped the screw in there... live (some more) and learn (eventually)...

At least the spring was there (it was, wasn't it?) so that the flaps were still
open.

	Yup!

Just leave them for now. A good machine shop can fix them the next time

Wow, o.k. Kind of a relief, actually.

So, now I've read the Bentley and the Haynes procedures for adjusting the thermostat. Neither description is terribly satisfying, but the take-home message seems to be that they should close with a 1-2mm gap, and should open fully when the thermostat has expanded. I think I'll start with the thermostat screwed just about all the way onto its rod, then work with my two adjustments -- the bracket position and the relay lever clamp screw -- to make sure that I match the hot and cold requirements.

Say -- my spring looked to be mounted a little funny on the lever assembly. Just where and how should it attach at that end?

	(Thanks, Jim!)
