[T3] Just how hot is too hot?

<x-flowed>

I live in temperate Aloha Oregon (near Portland). Temps here seldom reach 100F, so its pretty hot right now around 90-95. I know there are people that drive these cars in the deserts of California and such, so I shouldn't be having any problems, but I am. My car was running very aweful today, wouldn't keep running, hard to start, cannot get off the line, won't rev quickly. Seems to be too much gas for the engine temp. I know my temp sensors test correctly when cold, because I just checked them recently per the bentley. I went to test them today after driving about 10 miles in not-too-heavy traffic, and the engine decklid was too hot to hold. The engine itself is hot enough to burn my fingers if I left them on. I know, as my previous jobs involved handling uncomfortably hot things, and things that burn. I tested the temp sensors (carefully) and the cylinder head one seems to be shorted to ground. The one in the intake air distributor is also shorted between the two leads. My thermostat thingy is worn out, so the cooling flaps are always open all the way, so I'm befuddled. I still plan on going to Parma, but not if this thing is going to catch on fire. Help?
