I don't know if it's still possible to buy late Beetle outside scraper rubber without the aluminum trim. I think late bus scraper rubber would also work. Both have the right profile and the same upward curve where the scraper meets the B pillar. I just read Phil's post about a HVWs article detailing how to modify Type 1 scrapers to fit a Type 3. Since they're available for about $40US each I think it might be the best way to go. So Phil, how are those scans coming along?
