My thoughts are:    Why re-invent the wheel?     I bought a Graber #1059
that 
works on a Squareback, holds three bikes (not sure about a Trail-a-bike
though),
and mounts on the back.   Fully adjustable if you ever buy a 1980 Ford
Fiesta,
1980 Renault LeCar, or a 1986 Chevy Cavalier Wagen. Also works on BUGS.


Less wind resistance!   Less insect debris!   $89.59
