The front axle circuit wouldn't be doing any harm to starting or cranking the engine. If you've lubricated the earth clamps etc with copper grease, remove it! In my experience it stops conducting after starting a few times. This goes for spark plugs too. Jim uses something else for that reason too. You've not got aluminium battery clamps? I fitted some to a 6V Beetle and over a week or so it stopped turning over on the key. Corrosion had set in. Dave.
