It would if unmodified! The shaft flange (rear alternator cover in this case) of the type 1 unit comes off easily and one can remove considerable material without any effect on its strength. I did this with a band saw, but it could also be accomplished easily with many types of hand saws. You can't see it plainly in the picture, but a small amount material was also removed to clear the distributor. The metal is very soft and easily shaped. Having done this, only a very small amount of deformation in the cooling sheet metal was necessary -- about 1/4 inch. The reshaping required was at the very back of the depression already there for the generator. It merely needed to be extended and deepened. I have seen absolutely no effect on cooling.
