Re: [T3] Diagnostic help: Loud popping...Àvalve problems?
<x-flowed>Some other ideas here, I dunno if you have it figured out or not yet. As Jim
(i believe it was Jim) said if the valve lash is correct, and everything
moves correctly, then the valves are likely ok. You said that you turned the
engine over by hand and the valve train appeared to work correctly, I assume
there were no other ugly noises.
Is the car really backfiring? You know the really LOUD backfire...KER-POW.
Is is out the exhaust or the carbs? or both?
Can you crank over the car with the starter (not start it) and listen for
any unwanted noises? If there are no unwanted noises then the problem would
have to lie with the actual suck/squish/boom/blow
1. Did you blow out an exhaust gasket?
2. Break the exhaust in some fashion, broken weld etc.
3. Somthing stuck in the carbs blocking a jet? Lean cylinder?
4. Cracked valve seat or burned exh valve + leaky exhaust?
I hope everything turns out ok, ill send ya positive vibes :)
