[T3] Sophy's New Heart

<x-charset windows-1252>One major project in preparation for the the trip to Parma is done. I successfully installed the new engine in my 66 Square over the weekend. Reomoved the original Friday night and fired up the new engine late Sunday afternoon. Idles good. Has good power. Runs smooth and a bit quieter since I patched up a few holes in the exhaust. Yahoo!

Stock rebuild with dual port heads and full flow oil filter.

A few things to note...

A couple of the ribs in the backside of the fan housing had to be clearanced for the Gene Berg Full flow kit and I had to shave the corners off of a few of the fittings. Nothing drastic and no holes through the fan housing.

You can't reindex the distributor driveshaft with the mechanical fuel pump installed. Duh-Oh!

The 6 volt start really struggles to turn over the fresh, new higher comrpession (7.7 to 1) engine. It never turned over real strong before...now it is harder.

My engine swap timing was good. I found a 1/2" x 1/2" x .010" piece of metal and some small bits on the drain plate of the orginial engine. Haven't done the autopsy yet, but it looks like the remians of maybe a cam or rod bearing. Wonder how much longer I could have driven on that engine?

I have a few issues. I need to check the timing and the carb settings. I didn't do anything to the carbs besides bolt them onto the new dual port manifolds, so I don't expect to have to make any changes. The timing I set statically (7.5 BTDC as per Muir for a 66 T3) as before, but want to make sure...especially with the slightly higher compression. On that, can I use a 12 volt inductiove timing light with my 6 volt system if I power the light from a remote 12 volt battery or my battery charger? Will the inductive pick-up of the 12 volt light work on my 6 volt spark plug leads?

I also have a bit of an oil leak. Looks like it is from the main seal, but not sure why. It is a new seal. Will have to drop the engine and check it out.

I have about 50 miles on the new engine already. Will be checking the timing and valves tonight when I get home from work. Will also do a compression check. Will check the carbs tomorrow when I can borrow the Uni-sys from a friend.

BTW, I also had my clock out recently and resoldered the connection inside and it is keeping time. Yah!
