<x-charset iso-8859-1>Well I fiddled around with my carbs, cleaned up the inards of the auto-choke and for the first time adjusted the choke to throttle linkage as per the Haynes manual. For the first time since I owned it, my car now starts really nicely. The throttle lift really works and gradually decreases as the engine warms and there is no mis-firing or stalling any more. I think maybe my troubles with missing and stalling while warming were all due to this not working properly before. I'll have to wait and see if my MPGs improve with my latest dabble. When she's warmed there is still a little imbalance though. I wouldn't call it a mis-fire , more a roughness. I am wondering if the weeks of running very rich on 1&2 have lead to enough carbon being deposited on the piston crown to be felt as this imbalance, or maybe I should just wait till my new uni-syn arrives and I can really accurately balance the carbs. When I was balancing them last night I think I got them pretty close with my home made manometer. The exhaust was smelling like an exhaust should. When I re-fitted the aircleaner though, the revs dropped a little and the exhaust starting smelling a lot more petroly. I re-checked the mixture settings but they couldn't be improved. Does this indicate that I may have a blockage in the filter. I have no red line for the oil-level, its floating about in the oil- should it just come up to the edge of the inner wall? Maybe mine is too high?
