Chris, VW Type3s were not commonly sold new in NZ by official VW dealers. Only a trickle of VW Type3s came to New Zealand and a trickle also came in as private imports. The 1966 (from Aug1965 to July1967) model was the first German-made Type3 with the 1600 motor and with disc brakes and, I believe 1968 was the first model year with twin-port heads. However, private imports from Australia would not necessarily have a 1600 motor or disc brakes until 1968. All VW Type3s had ball-joint front suspension. If you are in or Christchurch, there is a wreckers yard near the entrance to the Lyttleton tunnel which has several Type3 and Type4 wrecks to cannibalise. If you are in or near Auckland or anywhere in the North Island may I suggest that you contact Knut Erbs on < knuterbs@ihug.co.nz > Regards, Simon Glen Toowoomba, Australia.
