The 1500S is a little more expensive to build and probably a little fussier given the higher compression, and as I understand it makes a bit less power than the 1600. As far as I know there's no way to tell the difference by looking at them. So as I see it what you get is bragging rights and a good understanding of how a fairly rare motor performs against constant attention to fuel quality and higher build cost.
