<< Picked up our new squareback - 1969 w/ automatic transmission. > Runs OK, looks good, wife loves it (it's her car - it was her idea! how > lucky am I?). Good choice, it's a great year. > But the way the AT works, I'm not quite sure it's right. My 69 AT works fine. What seems to be the problem with yours? There are many possible minor problems which are easy to fix. ===== Well - maybe it has no problems, and I just ain't used to it. Which is why I ask others to describe their AT experiences, so I can compare. But here's what I notice, that I think MAY be out of the oridinary: 1st gear is brutally short - barely winds up at all, and pops into second (sounds neat when it shifts - just happens kinda too soon, even with the pedal floored). @ idle, in gear, (like at a stoplight), the tranny and brakes seem to be "fighting", the car wants to creep... sometimes, there's a hard lurch when starting the car - either forward or backward, depending on which was the last gear you used when parking - what I wanna know is, are these things I've described "features" of the AT, or are they problems? is this just the way the animal works? Am I totally doing it wrong, because I'm used to late-model domestic auto trannies? Should the car always be started and shut off in "N"? Should I be downshifting manually? Is there any adjustment of the shift points? Enlighten me, please. Oh, and - (this for the esteemed Mr. Adney) - do you still have vintage Bentleys for sale? --timmy '72 square '69 square AT Jax, FL ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
