The first option is difficult, but the second borders on impossible. While swapping the parts from the old type 3 engine to the newer type 1 engine is not that hard, there are some differences between the engine cases that will leave you puzzled and in a difficult position. Certainly these things can be ignored, bypassed, or overcome, but the best option by far is to either rebuild your type 3 engine or find a different type 3 engine. I get the impression that you're hoping to find some easy and cheap way to fix a problem with your type 3 engine. I've got nothing against easy, and cheap is my middle name, but I'm afraid that none of the things you've suggested is likely to turn out to be easy. It might be far better to tell us what is wrong with your type 3 engine since there is always a chance that its condition is not as bad as you think. Don't just take some mechanic's word for it, they're not always right either. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
