<x-charset iso-8859-1> I have just placed 820 miles on my newly rebuilt engine after less than two weeks of driving , I could have placed more on it but I had to drive family members around a little less for a while. I am satisfied with the results, I will give the car an oil change this weekend, check timing again, tweek the mixture again (mixture needs changes as engine is run in ) , check plugs and compression. The hydraulic lifters are working fine but in the morning one seems to have leaked over night and sounds just like a stock one until I drive the car for a minute, it is always a different one and not always happens. My oil filter is probably doing it's job but a little crap may be still floating around. I will give my oil filter an autotopsy to see what it has caught and give a report on it. I will also check my sump magnets to see if any fuzziness and/or stuff are on them. I wonder if I have the 'go ahead' now to drive my car at abusive speeds and pedal to the metal low gear take offs all the time like I used to. I have an odd little observance with temperature, my engine is hottest when the day is cold and I drive it down the Mexican expressway five minutes from my house for 10 to 15 minutes, it runs at 350 + degrees F at 50 miles an hour, outside temps at high 40's at 4 AM . As I am at the Mexican border , the engine cools off for 10 to 15 minutes to 275 degrees F at very slow idle, then on the American border side down Interstate 5 at 55 miles an hour the engine temps stay between 300 and 325 degrees F . Is this difference in Highway temps due to my thermostat not fully warmed up ? Is it possible that the engine is intilally warmer in real cold weather (45 deg f California wheather whimp ) then cools down as engine air warms up to move the thermostat or is the injection catching up , in cold it is supposed to be mixture rich so it should not get warmer. In the day time the temps are under 350 deg F . Just curious about engine getting hotter when really cold. Any thoughts ?
