The originals are molded around a sheet steel core, so they have no flex at all. Yes, you want to do this job in warm or hot weather, because you will be trying to stretch the dash to fit. After 30 years they have all shrunk a bit. You won't notice it on your own until you try to put it BACK on. Don't try to do this without taking the steering wheel off.
