This was true for about the very first year of type 3 production, but not 
thereafter. After about 63, the type 3 cooler was unique.

Starting in 71 the beetle got a cooler which was a lot like the type 3s, except 
that it lacks the tapped boss for the oil pressure switch.

I don't think new type 3 coolers are available anywhere, but I have several 
perfectly good used ones.
