I think it should be possible to make replacement mushrooms. I would 
consider 2 possibilities: Pick the right size socket head shoulder bolts, or 
machine parts that would work. The shoulder bolts could be bolted into place 
after drilling a hole for the shaft, or the machined parts could have a short 
stub which would pass thru a drilled hole and get welded on the back side.
