Re: (Ba4) [T3] "gasoline heater"

<x-flowed>"I think it was there for all models and it probably adds to the
stiffness of the body. The microfilm shows it as being added shortly
after the beginning of production, without exception." - J.Adney

Well.... I've rememoved it. [about 10 minutes after I sent the e-mail] I
considered the body stiffing, but since the panel[s] (there are actually a
left and a right) are only held in with a handful of spot welds, I figured
what little stiffening I loose by removing the panel was made up for by the
rear hanger for the t4 motor. Also it resonated quite a bit, so I'm
thinking the car "may" be quiter without it. 8-)

3 coats of rustproof and two coats of blue paint on the metal that hasn't
seeen the light of day since it was in germany and the heater went in. Now
I'm working on re-bending a 412-ba4 exhaust so that it doesn't hit the axle
at full supsension travel. tomorrow I tackle air ducting and wiring. Maybe
I'll get to "fire" it up tuesday!

ned
69 t3 squareback w/2.0 914 t4 (running d-jet), 911 seats, 412 ba4...
next??? 944 trailing arms? 914 steering??? err... maybe some new hubcaps
for my stock wheels!
[if it an't broken, keep fixing it till it is]
