<x-charset iso-8859-1>First things first. Get a piece of wood and some elbow grease and get the heavy stuff off by hand. Sometimes the heavy stuff comes off easier than the light coat, THEN try whatever chemical concoction you have available. You can shape and sharpen wood to your hearts content and not damage the shroud nor remove any paint that is still attached to the metal. Paint stir sticks and popsicle sticks make a great start. If you don't care about the paint, use a metal putty knife. It's amazing how much can be removed with a bit of effort.
