I have never had any problems with jumpstarting a FI car from another
12V car. As long as you have the cables connected properly. The FI ECU
does NOT, I repeat, NOT have any polarity protection built into it.
As for starting it with a battery charger, you are better off to just
charge the battery completely, turn off the charger, and then try to
start the car. Some chargers, put out as much as 18V in the boost
position.
