The Gates gas line that I used from the FLAPS was said to be FI rated...... but I did not ask the FLAPS what that rating was. I used this hose on a 69 Squareback and a GM product. Both were carbed and in both cases it got brittle at the ends, leaked and cracked all over the outer layer in less than a year. After I saw this I removed it from my Squareback after only 2 months of having it installed. I then installed the German stuff. Then it was leaking in half the time of the Gates stuff. I know for a fact that the German line was the 8mm FI kind. I saw the box being opened to remove the new roll of line out at Kotch's VW shop. I am thinking that FLAPS stuff may have been just regular Gates 5/16" hose... but that is rated to over 50psi and still should have not broken down like that. I must agree that the German woven cover line is of poor quality now days...... even the larger vent line hose is poor. I have scanned the WEB today and have found that there is a FI hose out there that is rated at 400psi at 250+f deg..... and it has an inner part that is not affected by fuels or ALCOHOL. I did not find the part number as of yet(it was a tech page) but hope to soon. The Tech Page said that it was $4 a foot.... but if it is bullet proof, it is well worth it. Thanks for the Input guys.
