The picture you paint is terrifying, but I'm still using hose from a batch I 
bought about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, that Airequip part # is 
discontinued and I am about out. That hose was lasting about 10 years for 
me. I would look for a better source. 

I talked to a truck equipment place a few months ago and they had 
something that looked reasonable. You want 5/16" or 8mm hose. I actually 
think the domestic is better than the German, but your experience is truly 
awful. If you use hose that is too small it will certainly crack from the strain 
of stretching it over the fittings at the end, but NOTHING should split in the 
middle in that amount of time.
