I've occasionally had trouble when I used antiseize on the big union threads. I 
get the impression that this connection works best when it seizes up in a 
few weeks. They are SO much trouble for me to get apart next time, 
however, that I continue to use the antiseize.

Neither have I. This probably explains a lot of the cooling air intake bellows 
which get hard and cracked.

This is only true of the GOOD German mufflers. Some were made this way, 
some the easy way. You can tell the difference on a bare muffler by sticking 
your finger down one of the upper inlet pipes and seeing if it turns a corner or 
just ends at the muffler shell. Most of them that I see are not the good ones.

BTW, I've never seen a non-German type 3 muffler. I'm told that they exist, 
but all the ones I've seen were made in Germany. Some have stickers that 
say otherwise, but once you peel the stickers off I find a German stamp on 
the body of the muffler.

Even the Walker mufflers were made in Germany.
