It can be done with a puller, or even easier with a large vise and a couple of big screwdrivers. If you don't have the tools for this, just let the electrical shop take care of it. Of course you still have to find a good automotive electrical shop. The belt should be loose enough that it is easy to push it 3/8-1/2", but not so loose that you can push it 3/4-1". You really didn't say what went wrong that required a rebuild, or what the rebuild consisted of. What fails? In general, these last forever, except for bearings and brushes. Of course you have to know to install them right, with the cooling hole pointing straight down; there's a little line on the opposite side which must be straight up, in line with the dot on the gen strap.
