There should be no reason to open the valves when you change the pads. If 
you find this to be helpful, it means that your rubber hoses are blocked and 
they aren't allowing the fluid to flow back into the system. Or it might be 
caused by your MC not being allowed to return fully (sticky or misadjusted 
pedal.) Each of these is a serious problem and should be fixed quickly.
