Just check for power at the relay and work forwards or backwards depending on the results. Think of electricity as being just like water under pressure in a pipe. Imagine that you can check for pressure at various points along the pipe. When no water comes out the far end you just need to find 2 points along the pipe, one with pressure, one without, as close to each other as possible.
