Ken, you can try it. I'm sure you adjusted the shifter and plate right, right? But I think your tranny might be on its last legs. Usually when they go, they jump out of gear, or won't stay in gear, or you can't get that gear. How is your first gear? I'm only asking because when my tranny went south, it wouldn't stay in either first or reverse. I ended up swapping it out for a used one. It still has the same shift coupler it had when I got the car. I also have the old tranny too (can you say pack rat), in case somebody out there wants to do an autopsy. It is an IRS unit though. I hope this helps.
