[T3] FW: [T3] Type 3 gods looking after me ..Was dropped valve seat MO FOCO

<x-charset iso-8859-1> Leon,

All I know is the Brazilian heads suck. I've had really
good experiences with 043's (Mex). They have the 3/4"
plug hole and seem to be cast better. If you keep going
through all these heads, that should be telling you that
something is wrong somewhere else in the engine. I've
built lots of engines. I get stock heads from Don which
are $110/ each. If you're getting BOTH for $160, are
you sure they're not rebuilt? The problem with rebuilt
heads is you don't know how they were run before
they were rebuilt. If they were over heated, they'd be
weak, especially on #3 cylinder, causing the problems
you are describing.

You'd think that since I have a heavier car (Thing), with
8.5:1 compression, big valves and CNC porting, my heads
would be gone by now, especially since I rev to 6500 rpm,
but I've not had a problem. I have 043 heads, and these are
the same ones I'm putting on my Notch motor. I've heard
nothing but complaints about the MOFOCO heads. On some
of the motors I've rebuilt, I've replaced them with Don's 043's
and haven't had one come back yet, knock on wood. I'd make
sure that where ever the hell you're getting your heads from
isn't selling you rebuilt ones as new. After they clean them up
and put new valves in, it's really hard to tell the difference.
Just thought I'd help you with some info and experience,
but something is really wrong if you just keep adding to your
"bad head pile", and you need to find out what it is, unless
you've got lots of money and time to piss away.
Besides, if you're getting your heads from Bear's, you need to
find another machine shop. I checked them out when I was looking
for a machinist when I started building my Thing motor. I checked
about 6 shops, Moonlight, Bear's, Johnson's, Fibretech, Budget, and
The Bug Patch. Don at the Bug Patch impressed me the most, and
a few of the other shops used HIM for their machine work, so go
figure. I'd heard Bear's does passable work, but no where near the
quality of The Patch. Moonlight works only when they feel like it,
so you MIGHT get your stuff back in a week or two, or three.

As far as repairing and welding, no one can say their heads
won't crack. but brand new heads are less prone to it than rebuilt.

So good luck, let me know if you need anything,

P.A.
