<x-charset iso-8859-1>Went to the VW junk yard yesterday so Per could pick up US-spec lighting
assemblies -- T3-late front complete signals, T1 taillights (he doesn't
want the Euro amber signals) and T1-late front turn signals. I picked up
a FI access pannel in PERFECT condition to replace my butchered one. Saw
a nice blue interior Square and two 25-hp T1 engines (very rusted but
pretty much complete).
We saw a 362 (Squareback, '72) with its roof chopped off, offering a great
sectional view of the pillars (including the yellow-jacket nest in
one...eek!). We took pictures of ALL the pillars and Per will be
publishing them when he gets home (sometime after Saturday). It was
obviously a sunroof model because the drain tubes were readily visible. I
noticed it had the three-point seats (Per was trying to instruct me on the
fine art of identifying model years; I suck). The dash and pan numbers
indicated it was, indeed, a 1972 model. The owner of the place INSISTED
that no such beast existed. Per and I simply smiled at each other. Per
noticed a LOT of bleeding between years, particularly in the T1's present.
Per took some 'scenic' pictures for his brothers/friends at home because
they don't have junk yards as big and filled with only VW's. He said they
are smaller and filled with a variety of cars so the actual old VW's is
even smaller. Recycling automobiles is a big thing so there are even less
around (they get money back for recycling, much like we do for bottle
returns).
Yap yap yappity yap, I'm done :)
