<x-charset iso-8859-1>As you know from one of my last e-mails, I have had some engine hesitations and some strange gremlins going on inside my engine, some problems seemed corrected but others still exist. These past few weeks Cylinder # 3 was losing compression, it had 23 lbs while the others were at 120 lbs. After a ruthless application of oil detergents and a whole lot of fuel additives, the compression went up to 125 lbs last week. For some reason #3 had carbonized rings and/or valves , causing them to stick. I am fighting the T3 gods with these holy additives but they have just fought back and the compression is back down to 75 lbs as of yesterday. I am reapplying the fuel additves. I hope the compressin is back up soon. I think # 3 carbonization was caused by a sparkplug electrode squished to the insulator; low burning of fuel ? I used those quad platinum plugs from Bosch. The electrodes on these are very, very fragile and any bump will push them in, I did not notice the electrode when I put it in . Since this past Sunday, the gods have played me even more with disfavor, maybe because I was not able to attend the Parma event and also attended church services that day for my God. My car hesitated at stops , during long idles, car slower than before , backfires during those idle instances. I notice the missing and backfires also start a few seconds after I disconnect one plug from the distributor, after I plug the wire back in, the missing stays the same until I rev the motor. One very strange thing about this is when I am at an extended idle at a stop, the engine begins to backfire and miss really bad, like it is running on two cylinders and will not move faster than 5 miles and hour at full throttle for about 20 seconds , meawhile everyone behind me honks and curses. After much closer observation of these incidences during parking lot testing, I have noticed that as the engine misses horribly at idle , a monsteroulsy horrible sound comes out of the engine case as if gremlins are inside hitting it with METAL MALLETS and it sounds like clunk, clunk,clunk... together with random backfiring; after I speed the engine up , the sound and hesitation, goes away in a few seconds until I place it in Idle with the autoshifter in drive (low RPM) for a MINUTE again. I have replaced the - fuel filter (clogged) - Pressure sensor - sparkplugs - plug wires Problem is still less but still freaks out sometimes. I have not replaced the distributor cap and rotor since they are 6 months old. Maybe they are bad ? I have cleaned both and nothing changed. Is my engine crossfiring in the dist cap and causing the diseling effect or banging ? Can the higher humidity of this past week cause this, maybe my jumbo coil is putting out more spark than before, causing more crossfiring, can the pertronix fail only at low rps ? Does it sound like crossfiring ? The banging during the missing incident worries me. This problem does not affect highway speeds, only heavy traffic speeds at almost dead stop in the "drive" position. Tell me what you think .
