Hi Tom,

	Here in the east bay, I get parts from Small Car World in Albany
on San Pablo Ave., or in Hayward at BH Motorsports (aka Buggy House
Motorsports) on Mission.  Buggy House has a shop, too, I think; SCW at
least has a machine shop, don't know if they work on cars.  I can't
recommend or discourage service at either of these, since I've just only
bought parts from them.

	There's also some shop on San Pablo in Berkeley that seems to work
on air cooled cars; I can look up their name if you'd like.

	You might try http://www.ggcvvwca.org/ -- the regional chapter of
the vintage VW club of America.  

	What kind of work do you need done?
